How does EmailCleaned work?

When EmailCleaned detects a virus in an email attachment, the infected attachment is removed and the email is sent on to it's destination, without the attachment.

The subject line of the email is changed so it begins with: {Virus?}

When EmailCleaned detects spam, the subject line of the email is changed so it begins with {Spam?}

These email messages will arrive in your Inbox with either {Spam?} or {Virus?} in the subject line.

How do I filter out these Virus and Spam emails that have been flagged by EmailCleaned?

Most email programs have some kind of "Rules Wizard" or "Message Rules" which can help you manage the emails that you receive which have been flagged by EmailCleaned, and have either {Spam?} or {Virus?} in the subject line.

An elegant solution is

1. create a new folder in your email program named "Spam" (for example)
2. create a Rule that simply moves any of these {Spam?} and {Virus?} emails from your Inbox folder, into the "Spam" folder.

This way you do not have to be distracted by spam and virus emails cluttering up your Inbox. From time to time you can review the Spam folder and delete the spam and virus emails that have been moved there.

As another option, you could create two folders and two rules to keep the {Spam?} and {Virus?} emails in separate folders.

What if EmailCleaned thinks some emails are spam when they are not?

If you are receiving a newsletter (for example) that EmailCleaned thinks is spam, there is an easy way to correct this. We simply add the sender's domain name (ie the part of their email address after the @ symbol) to a "whitelist" which means that mail you receive from this person or company will never be flagged as spam.

What if EmailCleaned removes a file that I actually wanted to receive?

If EmailCleaned removes an attachment flagged as a virus, it replaces the attachment with a text file named "VirusWarning.txt"

If you want to retrieve the original attachment that was removed, follow the instructions contained in VirusWarning.txt, and the original attachment will be emailed to you.
